Chapter Thirty-one

Gregory got home with just enough time for a quick rinse before dinner. They chatted about their days while they ate before returning to their room. Yukiko had been wearing a knowing smile throughout dinner, so Gregory wondered what she knew.

“Greg,” Yukiko asked as soon as they were in their room, “why were you out so late?”

“I was arranging your birthday,” Gregory chuckled.

“A surprise for me?” She smiled as she looked at the others. “That explains why Mindie was so tight-lipped.”

“I didn’t want to say anything if he couldn’t arrange for it,” Mindie said.

“It started with me requesting the day off for all of us on your birthday,” Gregory told her. “When she gave it, I then had to set the plans. We had hopes, but I needed a local’s help to make sure they were viable.”

“Ah, so you were out making sure things were good?”

“Greta Vexadottir was gracious enough to help. I’ve made the arrangements and paid for everything. If you want to know about it right now, I’ll tell you, or you can let it be a surprise for when your birthday comes.”

Yukiko looked up, tapping a finger to her chin while she thought. “Hmm… I don’t often get surprised, so that would be nice. Knowing would let me make some modifications of my own, though… hmm…”

Gregory wrapped her in his arms, taking her out of her over-postured thinking pose. “It’s a bathing house with a private room where we can all relax. We’ve enjoyed the baths here, but we can all agree it can be a little snug.”

“That’s true, but none of us minds sharing your lap,” Yukiko murmured as she leaned against him.

“Not at all,” Ling smiled. “But we’d all like to relax and maybe massage each other without it feeling cramped.”

“Ohhh, we can all massage Yuki!” Clover beamed. “Greg, we need to make sure we can!”

“Mindie and I can find all of her muscles and loosen them up,” Roshana added.

“When you say it that way, it does sound wonderful,” Yukiko giggled.

“After that, I’ve set up dinner. It’ll be a selection of local dishes at a restaurant not far from here,” Gregory said. “It’s a day to enjoy with you while also learning more about Krogga.”

“Which we all want to do,” Jenn said.

“It does sound like a pleasant day,” Yukiko murmured. “Spending my days arguing with merchants hasn’t given me enough opportunities to appreciate local customs.”

“We’ve all been tied up with things,” Ling said. “Only Jenn, Greg, and Mindie have gone out more than twice, and even then, it’s mostly to the arena and back.”

“I approve of my birthday plans. Thank you, our soul,” Yukiko said before pulling his head down for a kiss.

He met her love and passion with his own. Yukiko had given him something to cherish back when they’d found each other at the academy. Then, she’d helped him admit what his own desires were and gave him that, as well. The wondrous woman in his arms deserved everything she wanted in life, and he’d try to make sure that she never wanted for anything.
